Binding: Eighteenth-century calf; the spine gold-tooled, with title in gilt on red leather label. Sprinkled red-edged leaves, the lower edges also sprinkled with black.

Size of leaf: 308 × 188 mm.

Frequent interlinear and marginal notes in Latin and Greek in a c.1500 Italian/French(?) hand, mainly extracting key words from or summarizing passages of Servius' commentary, extracting whole verses, and supplying underlining and brackets. Some interlinear notes in a sixteenth-century English hand, supplying synonyms. On a5v the same(?) hand has drafted a letter signed ‘your friend Sam: Kiddell', with incipit: ‘Sir my love remembred un to you in most [ ] manner these [ ] or rather . . .', asking for ‘a couple of your slowest running hounds to accompany Mr. Osney and Vincent Booth in that Heroick sport of Hippolytus . . .’

On a1v a nine-line initial ‘V' is supplied in blue ink on a square ground of red pen-work, some spaces filled with green ink; the space within the body of the letter decorated with red pen-work and green ink. Elsewhere two- to four-line initials are supplied in red or blue ink. Paragraph marks are supplied in red; capital strokes in red.
