Binding: Contemporary German (Leipzig, Kyriß workshop no. 105) blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards with metal corner-pieces (one missing from the upper cover, two from the lower) and two metal clasps and catches. On both covers fillets form the outer border. Intersecting fillets form a frame within which is a repeated foliate staff stamp (Kyriß pl. 213 no. 4), and, at the points of intersection, a large rosette stamp (Kyriß pl. 213 no. 2). Further fillets form the inner rectangle which is decorated with curved-outline tools making up merrythoughts (Kyriß pl. 213 no. 1), each containing a fleuron (Kyriß pl. 213 no. 3); in the centre of the rectangle is the rosette stamp.
Size: 331 × 229 × 68 mm.
Size of leaf: 315 × 207 mm.
Copious early marginal and interlinear notes in red and black ink, including comments on the text, extraction of key words, ‘nota' marks, and pointing hands; underlining in the text in black ink; also extensive notes on the pastedowns and endleaves.
Partial rubrication: A six-line initial ‘V' on [*6r] is supplied in interlocked red and blue; a six-line initial ‘B' on [*8v] is supplied in red; and a five-line initial ‘T' on a1r is supplied in red edged with blue; on a1r a five-line initial ‘T' is supplied in black; a paragraph mark is supplied in red on a1r; some capital strokes in red.
