a2r Armandus de Auzeria: Via salutis in subsidium presbyterorum. Incipit: ‘[L]egitur quod vbi maius periculum ibi cautius est agendum. xlii dis. . . . Sed maius periculum eminet in sacerdotibus . . . [S]acerdos dicitur quasi sacra dans vel sacer dux vel a sacrificando . . .’ In the prologue, the author names himself and says that this text is an abridged version of his Speculum animae.

Binding: Sixteenth-century French reversed alum tawed skin with a red-brown surface stain, laced-in handbands; two alum tawed ties lost.
Size: 207 × 140 × 35 mm.
Size of leaf: 204 × 136 mm.
The rear pastedown consists of a leaf from Psalterium, Paris: Pierre Levet, 23 Sept. 1486 (see P‑511); underneath, parchment manuscript fragments in Hebrew. In the front, strips from a thirteenth/fourteenth-century manuscript of canon law and a document dated 16 Nov. 1457.
Occasional marginal ‘nota' marks and extraction of key words. Addition on v8r in a contemporary hand in French in brown ink: ‘O dieu ete nel lequel delye la langue . . .’
Provenance: Guillaume de Forcalquier (sixteenth century); inscription on v8v: ‘Guillelmus de Forcalquerio'. Anthoine Daurel (sixteenth century); name on the front pastedown and inscription on v8v: ‘Anthonius Daurelus me possidet si prestas non recuperas si recuperare'. Purchased from A. L. Van Gendt on 18 Dec. 1974, lot 1736, for 550 Dutch Guilders; see auction catalogue with list of purchase prices.
